BAND
Prika Amaral formed the band in February 2010 with Fernanda Terra (their first drummer). Many of the members played in Nervosa until July 2011, where they composed some songs. Although they had previously been part of bands with different styles, such as death metal and crossover, all the members share the same passion in Nervosa's compositions: thrash metal. With strong influences from bands from the classic school of the genre, the band members strive to recapture the best of heavy music.
In March 2012, the band released their first music video, "Masked Betrayer," which reached the incredible feat, for a new band, of 20,000 views in just one week, earning them an Honorable Mention on YouTube as the 17th most-watched music video of the week and the 55th most-watched in March of that year. They soon released a demo with three songs independently.
Thanks to the notoriety gained through their hard work, NERVOSA achieved a major milestone in the following months: a contract with the Austrian label Napalm Records, one of the largest rock/metal labels in the world.
In 2014, the girls finished recording their first album, titled Victim of Yourself, which featured 12 tracks and whose cover was once again designed by artist Andrei Bouzikov, and the booklet was produced by Brazilian artist Rafael Romanelli.
The album was released in March of that same year by Napalm Records in Europe and North America, and by other labels and distributors in South America, Japan, and Russia.
The album's positive reception was crucial for a long and intense tour that spanned 2014 and 2015. To promote the album in Brazil, the band played in 17 Brazilian states, visited 7 Latin American countries, and embarked on a successful European tour with 51 shows over 60 days, visiting 16 countries across the continent. This included performances at some of Europe's biggest summer festivals, such as Summerbreeze, Brutal Assault, Metal Days, and Obscene Extreme.
The "Victim of Yourself" promotional tour also took the band to the United States for the first time in 2016. Beginning with two performances on the now-traditional "70,000 Tons of Metal" cruise ship, the tour also covered much of the country's West Coast and the South, with over 30 shows from Washington State to Florida. Nervosa also explored other new territories, such as Mexico, where the band toured for two weeks, and other destinations such as Puerto Rico and Peru.
In 2016, the band recorded their new album, "Agony." Recorded and produced in California and Oregon, USA, by Brendan Duffey and mixed and mastered by thrash master Andy Classen, the album's worldwide release was announced for June 3rd on the Austrian label Napalm Records.
This same year was also quite intense in terms of shows to promote their latest album: they played over 160 shows in 2016 alone.
The tours in support of "Agony" include a European summer tour with nearly 50 dates, a full month of shows on the East Coast of the USA and also in Canada, as well as two European tours with a special appearance by the German band Destruction, totaling nearly 60 shows, some of them alongside the major bands Flotsam & Jetsam and Enforcer.
In June 2018, the band released their new album, "Downfall of Mankind," on Napalm Records, and toured extensively throughout Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The album received critical acclaim, and in 2019, they played at Rock in Rio for over 70,000 people.
The band released the single "Guided By Evil" in October 2020, and their new album, "Perpetual Chaos," was released in January 2021, reaching the top of the charts in several countries. That same year, the album received critical acclaim and was ranked among the best album of the year, among other categories.
2023 began with a major change, with the announcement that Prika Amaral would take over on vocals and Helena Kotina would take over on second guitar.
That same year, the band released their most acclaimed album by both the press and fans, "Jailbreak."
Jailbreak's promotional tours were a success, kicking off 2024 with a tour alongside death metal giants Decapitated. That same year, they played additional shows across Europe with Exhorder, and soon after performed at major festivals, including Tons of Rock alongside Metallica. The year concluded with an extensive North American tour, this time with Nervosa headlining.
2025 officially marks the band's 15th anniversary celebration, a milestone year featuring the most tours Nervosa has ever undertaken.
The commemorative tour began in South America in January and February with a series of sold-out shows. In March, the band returned to France for a hugely successful Warm-Up Tour at the massive Hellfest festival. April brought an unprecedented tour across Asia and Oceania, spanning multiple countries. June and July featured a major tour alongside Cradle of Filth.
Looking ahead, October will see a historic tour with Testament, Obituary, and Destruction.
Nervosa has already completed recording their new album, which is expected to be released in the first half of 2026, with many more tours to be announced.
Nervosa is considered an important figure in the female thrash metal scene worldwide, known for her distinctive compositions.
